Overview

The field of psychology has under gone much change through the call for
psychological practice to be in line with Evidence Based Research. Traditional
schools of Psychodynamic (Freudian), Humanistic (Rogers) and
Cognitive Behaviour (Beck) are changing to provide short term intervention
outcomes.

Most Evidence Based Research and Practice is based on reducing clinical symptoms
seen in the DSM-IV after the disorder has developed.  Where most disorders that are
not related to trauma could be prevented. The aim is to manage stress by adaptive
coping strategies, sometimes just debriefying the problem can give you enough
insight to solving the problem.

Philosophy

Smart hearts is commited to the Humanistic Approach through Solution Focus
and Motivational Enhancement Therapy. This approach helps us to reduce the
interventions to three counselling sessions. The interventions are designed for
people who want help, motivation or guidance for issues related to job seeking,
dating, losing weight, self esteem, relationships issues and addictions.
We also use Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Interpersonal Therapy,
to treat people with social anxiety, phobia, adults with autism and
Asperger’s syndrome to gain social outcomes such as employment.

We are still developing this speciality to fill needs that are not provided
through Evidence Based Practice. Once we have create a program that
delivers the results, we will run it off donations instead of government grants.
We hope to gain donations by people turning up to day and night events that
we plan to run very soon. So keep checking up on us…
